Transportation Systems/Rail Lines
The Alameda Corridor East Train Diversion Project (ACE) involved excavation under the existing
railway to allow vehicular and pedestrian thoroughfares under the passenger and freight traffic.
ArchaeoPaleo was awarded three separate underpasses: Ramona, Temple and East End.
ArchaeoPaleo provided the archaeology, cultural-historic building assessment, and paleontology technical sections of the
Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS) for the Los Angeles Union Station-Anaheim (northern Orange County) segment
of the 800 mile long California High-Speed Rail System. The proposed rail line will run from Sacramento and the
San Francisco Bay Area to San Diego via Los Angeles, Orange County and Riverside. The high-speed trains would
be traveling at speeds in access of 200 miles per hour.
ArchaeoPaleo has been awarded the 5-year on-call contract with MTA through Jones & Stokes (now part of IFC) to provide
archaeological and paleontological monitoring and assessment services for several MTA projects throughout
Los Angeles County, including the Gold Line Extension through downtown Los Angeles, the Mid-Wilshire light
rail line from downtown Los Angeles westward past Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the La Brea Tar Pits
along Wilshire Boulevard, the EXPO ROW light rail and bus line from downtown Los Angeles south past
University of Southern California and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County westward towards
Culver City and the Orange Line in the West San Fernando Valley. This project includes monitoring for new water, gas, sanitary sewer, and other utility lines
throughout the MTA ROW in Los Angeles. There are three historic cemeteries within the Goldline passenger
rail line route. ArchaeoPaleo has just assessed the signifiance level of the historic rail crossing guard
gates along the historic red car line.
ArchaeoPaleo has been retained to provide technical services in support of Environmental Impact Report (EIR)
/Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) documentation for San Bernardino Valley's Omnitrans sbX E Street Corridor Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project which is
the beginning of an extensive intermodal public transit system in the San Bernardino Valley. It runs between a residential/commercial area near Cal State
San Bernardino and the city of Loma Linda with its university, medical center and VA hospital and through the government and business center of the City of
San Bernardino.
ArchaeoPaleo has been awarded three contacts with the Los Angeles World Airports agency. One contract is for
on-call services regarding an incidental discovery of cultural and paleontological resources at any one of
the multiple airports managed by the agency. The second contract is the LAX midfield-tarmac for monitoring services for planned
construction at the airport. The third contact is for Bradley Terminal at LAX.
This redevelopment project is located on the former George Airforce Base, within the current boundaries of the city of Victorville. ArchaeoPaleo was retained to provide technical documentation and
construction monitoring services for the logistics center section of the overall project.
ArchaeoPaleo provided paleontologic monitoring services for this project that connected a 60 inch wide water pipeline from the California
Aqueduct to the local canal system to provide water to the agricultural lands in Tupman and Buttonwillow, California near Bakersfield in Kern County.
ArchaeoPaleo provided a Phase 1 cultural and paleontologic assessment for this project which included provided a ten person week long field survey,
extensive record and literature search and over two months of writing the documents for the EIR. The assessment included writing over 40 archaeological
site records including Native American sites, canal and bridge assessments, and roadway assessments. The project description on-line on their web page states:
"The project consist of the conversion of approximately 18 linear miles of canal with approximately 25 miles of pipeline in the northern third of the
District's Buttonwillow Service Area's irrigation water delivery system from open earthen canals to a closed or semi-closed system."
ArchaeoPaleo was retained to provide technical services (field survey and record search) in support of Environmental Impact Report (EIR)
/Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) documentation on the planning and construction of the Jensen Solids-Handling Filtration Facility located in Granada Hills.
This project for which ArchaeoPaleo provided the paleontological monitoring services realigned
the main water pipeline in the West San Fernando Valley in the Porter Ranch area of the City
of Los Angeles. The project site is part of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California
and the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power’s Chatsworth and Granada pipelines. It replaced a 54-inch
pre-stressed concrete cylinder pipe with welded steel pipes of the same dimension and installed a prefabricated
manhole/pumping-well structure.
ArchaeoPaleo provided the archaeological and paleontological services under a three-year contract
with LADWP through Aspen Environmental for all ongoing projects under LADWP. The “On-Call”
contract includes power generation projects, power transmission and distribution projects, water storage
treatment and distribution facilities and utility-related projects including the District Chilled Water Line on
2nd Street Downtown Los Angeles, Redmont Pumping Station, and District Center #144.
This project provides a major water pipeline running east of the Rio Hondo River along Loma Avenue
and westward at the 60 Freeway then south along Rosemead Boulevard through Whittier Narrows Recreation
Area in South El Monte, California. The pipeline varies in depth but runs through a large agricultural
area and recreation/nature park to bring recycled and reclaimed water to golf courses, parks, and schools
in the San Gabriel Valley.
The major agencies that are involved are:
the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern
California, the Los Angeles County Sanitation District, Los Angeles County Department of Parks and
Recreation, Caltrans, and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. ArchaeoPaleo’s contributions were rendered by
T.A. Rivard, the General Contractor through Tetra Tech, Inc. ArchaeoPaleo provided the archaeology
and paleontology monitoring and consulting services for the project. The project could have possibly
run through the original location of the San Gabriel Mission and a Native American village site.
This project provided an additional pumping facility at the current Los Angeles County Sanitation District’s
Whittier Narrows Water Reclamation Plant in the Whittier Narrows area. ArchaeoPaleo provided archaeological and
paleontological services by monitoring the drilling for caissons and the excavations in native (non-fill) soil.
Los Angeles/Kern Counties Recycled Water Project
ArchaeoPaleo provided the archaeological and paleontological technical documentation in support of the Environmental Impact Report (EIR)
/Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the 70-mile pipeline, reservoirs and pump stations of the Los Angeles/Kern Counties
Recycled Water Project located in the Antelope Valley.
Santa Monica Memorial Park Reservoir
ArchaeoPaleo provided archaeological and paleontological monitoring services and technical documentation
for various aspects of the Santa Monica Memorial Park Reservoir Project in the city of Santa Monica. The project
included an underground water reservoir and assessment of historical buildings on the project site.
LADWP Harbor Recycling Pipeline
ArchaeoPaleo is providing the phase I archaeological and paleontological technical documentation
for various aspects of the LADWP Harbor Recycling Pipeline Project located in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County.
The project runs through Wilmington, Harbor City, Lomita and Torrance.

and Santa Monica.
Thousand Oaks Reservoir

Triunfo Sanitation District Conifer Tank Replacement
ArchaeoPaleo is providing archaeological and paleontological monitoring services and technical documentation
for the Triunfo Sanitation District Conifer Tank Replacement Project in Ventura County.
ArchaeoPaleo provided archaeological and paleontological monitoring services and technical documentation
for the Niland Gas Turbine Plant expansion. This project supplies utility services to the
City of Niland and adjacent Imperial County areas within southern California. This project is a joint venture
between the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission, and the Imperial
Irrigation District.
Southern California Gas Company's Bolsa Chica Wetlands Project
ArchaeoPaleo is providing archaeological and paleontological monitoring services and technical documentation
for the Southern Gas Company's Bolsa Chica Wetlands Project. The company is being required to remove an approximately
0.9 mile section of a natural gas pipeline from the restoration area of the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Restoration
Project in Orange County.
Garlock Sand and Gravel Mine
Garlock Sand and Gravel is a long-term mining operation on 356 acres to mine rock to make aggregate base
for roads, highways, and other ground surfaces. The archaeological monitoring requirements are on a
“As Needed” basis for a possible 20 year term. ArchaeoPaleo held three separate contracts
with Service Rock throughout southern California. ArchaeoPaleo provided archaeological Phrase 1 Assessment
of the property and prepared the technical documentation to be sent to the State of California and
associated agencies.
29 Palms Service Rock
ArchaeoPaleo provided archaeological and paleontological Phase I assessments and technical documentation
for the 29 Palms Service Rock operations in 29 Palms in San Bernardino County.
ArchaeoPaleo currently supplies technical document and archaeological field monitoring services for each phase
of the landfill expansion. This contract is on a long-term multi-year “As Needed” basis for archaeological
consulting services for an unincorporated part of Los Angeles County in the Palmdale area.

The scope of ArchaeoPaleo’s work for this project is to help design a Feasibility Study that includes all
documentation for mitigation and consulting services. The Los Angeles County's Department of Public Works, along
with the George C. Page Museum of La Brea Discoveries, is working to correct site drainage affecting the
active paleontologial site know as Pit 91 as well as the areas of Lake Pit and Oil Creek through solutions and corrective measures to discharge oily water
runoff into the existing onsite storm drain system that connects to the flood control system. ArchaeoPaleo
is providing professional services to investigate and contribute an effective solution to the problem.
ArchaeoPaleo has also been retained to provide archaeological and paleontological monitoring services.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art received private funds to hire renowned architext Renzo Piano to
design and transform the existing art museum complex into a state of the art, architecturally unique
world-class art museum complex. To achieve this goal, they have to renovate a few buildings, remove the
old parking structure, add a 20-foot deep storm drain and sewer project, replace and relocate utilities,
construct a new larger underground parking structure, and add a new 80,000 square foot museum building.
The art museum and the work conducted for this transformation is on the Hancock Park property at Wilshire
and Fairfax in Los Angeles, California. Within the museum complex to the east of the art museum is the
world famous La Brea Tar Pits. ArchaeoPaleo was hired to monitor the excavation work in this extremely
sensitive fossil-bearing area. ArchaeoPaleo uncovered 23 separate large fossil pits that are the first
recorded tar deposits found west of what was once called Ogden Avenue. The data recovery and research on
these 23 pits are collectively known as Project 23.
ArchaeoPaleo worked with the governing board of the Banning Museum in Wilmington on its renovation project.
ArchaeoPaleo provided archaeological and paleontological Phase I technical documentation services
for the FEMA-funded cleanup after the 100-year rains of 2008 within
Newport Bay,

ArchaeoPaleo supplied construction monitoring services for the first part of the renovation to El Cariso Cummunity Regional Park in Sylmar, California.
This renovation included building a new gymnasium, new water and utility lines, and enlarging the existing parking area for the park.
Additional development will continue in another phase of the project during 2013.

currently house the Brentwood and Wadsworth theaters and the current State Veterans Home and Medical Facility.

northwestern section of former Fort MacArthur’s UpperReservation site in the City of San Pedro.
West Los Angeles College is located on the west-facing base of the Baldwin Hills in the unincorporated
area of Los Angeles County near Culver City, CA. ArchaeoPaleo Resource Management, Inc. was
commissioned by Jones & Stokes (now part of IFC) to provide paleontological monitoring services during the grading
operation for a two-story parking structure for the ever-growing campus.
University High School is located in West Los Angeles on Barrington Avenue. ArchaeoPaleo Resource Management, Inc. was
commissioned to provide archaeological and paleontological monitoring services during the grading
operation for the utility replacement next to The Springs Native American site on the campus.
ArchaeoPaleo was contracted to provide field and technical writing services for all archaeological, cultural,
historical, and paleontologic requirements for the residential development project within city of Newhall's
downtown specific plan area.
ArchaeoPaleo was contracted to provide field and technical writing services for all archaeological, cultural,
historical, and paleontologic requirements on this several thousand-acre 1000+ home community project. It is also
a large linear project in the Department of Water Resources jurisdiction with the associated California Aquaduct
involving nine large sewer and storm drain projects, mass grading excavation to 40+ feep deep encompassing
work in the San Andreas Fault line. The project includes a fire station, a school, many parks, horse and bicycle
trails, a golf course, several million gallon water tanks, and a community retail development. This
contract is for 6 to 10 year and encompasses working within the conditions of Edison, Department of Water
Resources (California Aqueduct), the County of Los Angeles and the City of Palmdale. There are over 60 Native
American sites, including two villages, on the project site. One of the villages has a Native American burial
site next to a 6 lane highway. ArchaeoPaleo negotiated the alignment of the highway to avoid contacting additional burials.
The famous fossiliferous Anaverde Formation is on the property.
College Park
This is a multi-phase residential community at Barrel Springs Road associated with proposed elementary school and
community college. ArchaeoPaleo provides the archaeological and paleontological services. This project
includes mitigation of the original waterway of the Antelope Valley: the Palmdale Ditch.
Joshua Ranch Housing Development
This housing project consists of a large upscale housing development nestled in the southwest section of Palmdale,
California. The development contains its own water resources and water tanks to serve the new residents. Historic
mining claims are located on the property. ArchaeoPaleo prepared the technical documentation in suppport of EIR/EIS
as well as a Phase 1 archaeological assessment of over 500 acres of property adjacent to and including several
historical trails, roadways and the Department of Water Resources California Aqueduct, and supplied construction monitoring services.

The Grove at Farmers Market is an upscale outside retail center. It was built on a historic site owned
by the Gilmore Family. It was built next to the family's historic adobe
and the famous historic Farmers Market. This area is part of the historic Wilshire Corridor area at Fairfax
and 3rd Streets Redevelopment overlay zone in Los Angeles.
The Lakes in Thousand Oaks is an upscale retail shopping center on the City of Thousand Oaks Civic Center
land adjacent to the Civic Center itself. We encountered a Native American site and a fossil mastodon jaw
on the project, which was historically used for the Jungleland movie animal zoo. This fossil mastodon jaw was the first of its
kind to be found in the area.
